Last Thursday we went to Istana Budaya to see a big Bollywood musical called The Merchants of Bollywood.

Even though most of my friends in KL is gay men this was almost only ladies night. The taller Scandinavian girl next to me is my new Finnish friend Riina and right from her is her Malaysian work colleague. Pallavi, Indian American girl next to me, is also a volunteer in PT Foundation. Her husband Ravi kindly took the photograph. Note also that to Istana Budaya theatre there is quite strict dressing code. You might be turned away from the door if you are wearing sneakers, trousers, shorts, jeans or something else not suitable for the majestic surroundings.
Our seats were in the second floor which was good in the sense for seeing the whole set decoration and group choreographs at the same glimpse.

The play told us a story of a girl who wanted to become famous in the Bollywood movies against her grandpa's wishes. Mostly the show was about dancing scenes with beautiful choreographs and gorgeous costumes that were blinking in every shade of cold, red, pink and silver. Audience were of course not allowed to take photographs from the show so here is one detail pic from the booklet I bought.

After the show 4 dancers came to the lobby to give autographs.

Of course we had to have ours. I was almost the first one in the autograph line. I chatted with one of the male dancers "you must be exhausted to come there right away after 3 hours of dancing". He just pointed the big drops of sweat on his forehead. When I suggested to him that he should store a towel underneath the table he just laughed and was already smiling to the next thankful fan in the line.

My booklet with the autographs.

An art work inspired by the show. Moving dancers dressed in cold.
